Membership Levels for the USPBSP Association

Please note the addition of three levels of membership at the Certified Therapist level.

We, US PBSP trainers and supervisors have taken on the mission Al Pesso gave us to further and maintain the growth of PBSP in the United States. To this end we have formed a non-profit corporation called the United States Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor Association (USPBSPA). We invite you to become members of this association. The dues will help to give the new organization money to cover operating expenses. Right now these operating expenses are minimal and are mainly, 1) the expenses of an official website, 2) to conduct a yearly conference (at which the business of the organization can be conducted). The dues renewal is at your year anniversary of joining. Notice of a renewal will only occur when you enter the website as a pop-up reminder one year after your initial date. Members at all levels will be eligible to be listed in the organization’s “Membership Directory.” The directory will be an important referral source for people seeking PBSP therapy, and for members to be able to network with each other.

Open Membership - $50.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) This level of membership is open to anyone, professional and non-professional alike. This level is for anyone who wants to identify themselves as part of the PBSP community and wants to help to maintain its presence in the USA. Having this membership level is one small way that we can carry forward Al and Diane’s hope that the values of PBSP have a wider application than just as a therapeutic method.

Member in Training - $50.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) Member in training. The requirement for this level will be that a mental health professional – open to all disciplines, like psychology, social work, pastoral counselors, coaches, marriage and family – who are actively engaged in PBSP training. Ideally this would be an organized training program, but recognizing that our movement is young, any individualized plan can be submitted for approval of membership at this in training level.

Practitioner - $75.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) The requirement for this level will be anyone who has completed a PBSP training program, which, at this point, is 15 days of training, following the curriculum guidelines of the USPBSPA, which also includes doing at least 3 personal structures with a Certified PBSP therapist.

LEVEL I

At least 27 days of training, either in a three-year formal PBSP training group or various PBSP trainings led by certified PBSP Supervisors and Trainers. An outline of the training/s and their content and an account of supervision is submitted along with a live or zoom video of the therapist leading an individual structure in a one-on-one session. A write-up is included with the video following the guidelines for submission of a video for certification.

Level I certifies the therapist to lead one-on-one structures in a live or zoom setting.
The therapist’s supervisor/s will sign off on the hours of supervision submitted.

It is strongly recommended that applicants complete five structures for their own personal growth outside of learning structures they may have done in training.

LEVEL II

At least 27 days of training, either in a three-year formal PBSP training group or various PBSP trainings led by certified PBSP Supervisors and Trainers. An outline of the training/s and their content and an account of supervision is submitted along with a live or zoom video of the therapist leading a structure in a group setting. A write-up is included with the video following the guidelines for submission of a video for certification.

Level II certifies the therapist to lead structures in both one-on-one and group settings.
The therapist’s supervisor/s will sign off on the hours of supervision submitted.

It is strongly recommended that applicants complete five structures for their own personal growth outside of learning structures they may have done in training.

Supervisor - $100.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) One year after a person has met the requirements for the Certified member level, they may consider applying for a membership on the Supervisor level. Achieving this level will be competency based. That is, applicants will submit a video of themselves providing supervision and this video will be evaluated by the membership committee with the traditional list of skills. For this reason, there is not a specific set of days or hours of experience. Therefore, the following are more guidelines than they are requirements. Supervisors in training will need to get supervision of their supervision. Such supervision of supervision will need to be done with a trainer. The easiest way for this to happen would be a supervisor in training to join a training program, like the one they completed to be a therapist member, and to help the trainer, providing supervision to trainees and getting supervision of their work with the trainer(s). Such supervision of supervision within a training program has been a longtime tradition within the PBSP community. When the applicant assesses that they have reached the necessary competency level to be a supervisor, perhaps in consultation with a trainer, they may submit a video.

Trainer - $125.00 (USD) Subscription period: 1 year Automatic renewal (recurring payments) The requirement for this level of member will be that applicants must have already attained the supervisor level. Like the supervisor level, this level is also competency based, but adds a teaching competency to a supervisory competence. At this level, applicants will present a video or a live demonstration of the applicant teaching PBSP. There is also a list of skills and abilities that Trainers must demonstrate. Typically, someone training to be a supervisor will be part of a training program. If they attain the supervisor status, they may continue in the training program as an apprentice trainer, giving lectures, organizing a training day, and so forth, under the supervision of a trainer. When the applicant feels that they have reached the competencies expressed in Trainer criterion points, they can submit a video of themselves conducting a training session to the membership committee. In this case, the membership committee must be all Trainers (for the previous levels of training, supervisors may also serve on the membership committee).
