Presenters Bio's
Jim Amundsen, PhD first started training with Al Pesso in the early 1980's. After acheiving Certification as PBSP Therapist he and fellow PBSP therapist, Curt Levang, formed the North Central Psychomotor Society and started organizing PBSP Training programs. In 2005 Jim organized the international PBSP Congress in Minneapolis. When the USA Trainers and Supervisors formed the USPBSPA, Jim became the first President. Jim has presented papers at many of the International PBSP Congresses.
Matt Fried, PhD has been practicing psycotherapy for over four decades. He is in private practice in Manhattan, working with individuals, couples and groups. He is a Certified PBSP Trainer, Supervisor and Therapist. He is on the board of the board of the USPBSPA and a co-chair of the USPBSPA Certification committee. He has been involved with PBSP since 1988. He has presented at various PBSP International Conferences. He leads PBSP groups and workshops in NYC and Ithaca, NY and he coordinates PBSP activities in the NYC area.
He is also a certified AEDP Therapist and Supervisor and Coordinates the AEDP Communties in Toronto and NYC. He co-chairs the AECP Dirversity Committee, which extends low-cost and no-cost AEDP Training to therapists working with or from marginalized or under-represented populations, including therapists working in agency settings with severely compromised patients.
Gus Kaufman, Jr., PhD, senior US PBSP Trainer, is a psychologist in private practice in Decatur, GA and a social activist. His dissertation research on PBSP, Body Signals of Childhood loss, was outlined in the book, Moving Psychotherapy. Gus has trained therapists in PBSP around the USA, Europe and Israel and has presented at all of the International PBSP conferences.
Bessel van der Kolk, MD,is a clinical psychiatrist whose work integrates mind, brain, body, and social connections to understand and treat trauma. His research ranges from the impact of trauma on development and brain imaging, to the use of yoga, neurofeedback, EMDR, and theater for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. Bessel is a professor of psychiatry at Boston University School of Medicine, and medical director of the Trauma Center in Boston. Bessel is the author of more than 150 peer reviewed scientific articles and several books including the New York Times best-seller, The Body Keeps the Score: Mind, Brain, and Body in the Healing of Trauma.
Curtis A. Levang, PhD, is a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a doctorate in Clinical Psychology. In addition, he is certified as an Adlerian Therapist, Level II EMDR practitioner, and a PBSP Therapist, Supervisor and Trainer. He has been a therapist for more than 35 years and currently is the owner of Levang and Associates, and a Clinical Supervisor at Careprofiler. He is the author of Looking Good Outside. Feeling Bad Inside, and has authored several articles on human behavior, and lectures on topics related to trauma, depression, and the mind/body connection. He wa published in the Spring, 2017, International Body Psychotherapy Journal, titled, "LIFE Questionnaire Development and factor analysis of the Levang Inventory of Family Experiences: A new way to operationalize and validate PBSP."
Deborah Ann Willbur, LCSW, P.A, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Winter Park, FL for the past 33 years. She has been a Certified PBSP Trainer since 2007 and is a member of the Membership/Certification Committee for the USPBSPA. She, along with Sandy Canfield, LMFt and Certified PBSP Trainer, organized and supervised the four year, Florida PBSP Training Group in early 2000. She presented at the 5th International PBSP Congress on: Understanding and Working with Eating Disorders Using PBSP. She again presented at the 1rst Annual USPBSPA Conference in 2017: An Experiential Introduction to PBSP.
CONFERENCE DESCRIPTION: Pesso Boyden System Psychomotor Therapy (PBSP)is considered one of the premier treatment modalities for trauma and attachment wounds. Conference presentations and workshops will explicate and teach the work didactically, and via demonstration and experiential exercises. Presentations will connect PBSP to relational therapies, such as AEDP, describe and demonstrate new developments in PBSP, and detail its use with abuse and trauma.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
Participants will be able to:
1. Identify manifestations of unmet basic developmental needs as they arise in the therapy session.
2. Review PBSP principle of Ideal Parenting as a healing response to unmet needs and how to teach it to the client.
3. Utilize the techniques of witnessing and “voices” when working with clients in the early stages of a PBSP session or in relational therapy.
4. Practice helping their clients use symbolic action and satisfying interactions with ideal parent figures to create new and more positive, experientially anchored internal maps.
